Eric Kella is the vice president of Compliance One Group, a healthcare code compliance firm located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering.
Eric has 12 years of construction experience in healthcare facilities with an emphasis specific to healthcare facility code compliance. His construction experience is in renovation projects within existing operational healthcare facilities where knowledge of infection control and necessary clinical controls, interim life safety measures, hospital utility systems, and communication is key to maintain day-to-day operations with little to no impact to patients and staff. He has vast knowledge in the project closeout and occupancy process with the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), from local building inspectors to the Bureau of Fire Services and Health Facilities Engineering Section.
Eric’s healthcare facility code compliance experience includes maintaining compliance with all authorities have jurisdiction. He has developed immense knowledge of NFPA 101 and NFPA 99, and has developed knowledge within the accrediting agencies: The Joint Commission, DNV, HFAP, AAAHC and CMS.
Eric has also developed and currently oversees compliance programs for emergency preparedness, life safety mock surveys, barrier management, and testing, inspection and maintenance for Compliance One Group.
Life Safety Advisor
Brad is a former advisor to Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) and former Joint Commission LS surveyor. He guides clients through organizational assessment; management training; ongoing coaching of task groups; and extensive one-on-one coaching of facility leaders. His clients have included insurance underwriter groups, hospitals, ambulatory care centers, physician practice groups, and large integrated systems across the country. He analyzes and develops leadership effectiveness and efficiency in work processes, focusing on assessing an organization’s preparedness for survey, evaluating processes in achieving preparedness, and guiding organizations toward compliance.
As a presenter at national seminars, regional conferences, and audio conferences, Brad teaches the Keyes Life Safety Boot Camp series to various groups and organizations. He is the author or coauthor of many HCPro books, including the best-selling Analyzing the Hospital Life Safety Survey, now in its 3rd edition.
Brad has also authored a variety of articles in numerous publications addressing features of life safety and fire protection, as well as white papers and articles on the Building Maintenance Program. Currently serving as the contributing editor of the monthly HCPro newsletter Healthcare Life Safety Compliance gives Brad further insight to the industry’s trends and best practices.
Having worked as a consultant to the healthcare industry for more than 10 years, and in the facilities management side of healthcare for more than 30 years, Brad was most recently employed as safety officer at a large Midwest hospital. Serving as one of the original Life Safety Code® specialist surveyors for The Joint Commission, Brad has more than three years of experience in hospital accreditation surveys. He currently is certified as a Healthcare Safety Professional by the Board of Certified Healthcare Safety Management.
