Case Study: Grosse Pointe Public School System

Overview

The Grosse Pointe Public School System (GPPSS) is a school district headquartered in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. GPPSS educates approximately 8,100 students annually. Currently, GPPSS has 13 school buildings located throughout the district, each requiring their own Emergency Operations Plan, Long-Term Evacuation and Reunification Plans and procedures, and security risk assessments.

The Problem

Grosse Pointe Public School System (GPPSS) contracted Compliance One to redevelop and update their Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and their Emergency Response Plan (ERP) guidelines.

In several cases, the formerly established reunification sites and the public schools had no written agreement solidifying each other’s commitment to assuring the safety and security of the students.

The Solution

Compliance One performed a hazard vulnerability and security assessment of GPPSS’ buildings in close coordination and collaboration with school administration, staff, parent volunteers, evacuation sites, and the six Grosse Pointe Public Safety entities.

The results were a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan and Emergency Response Plan.
