Hurley Medical Center is a 443-bed premier public teaching hospital recognized as a regional leader in advanced specialized health care. Every year, more than 20,000 people choose Hurley for their inpatient hospital care and our Emergency Department handles over 80,000 annual emergency cases.
Hurley Medical Center was seeking a partner to help prepare them for an upcoming accreditation survey by The Joint Commission.
To prepare Hurley for their Joint Commission accreditation survey, Compliance One updated their Life Safety drawings which revealed they had 835 fire-rated doors that were unnecessary according to code standards. Compliance One was able to reclassify occupancy types and decommission 70% of their fire-rated doors, resulting in a new inventory of 361 doors, saving Hurley over $250,000 in the first year based on the average door repair cost. The facility's total damper count was also reduced by 82%, resulting in a cost savings of $225,000.
When The Joint Commission arrived on-site to survey Hurley Medical Center, they were planning on a 4-day survey. Upon reviewing the facility’s updated Life Safety drawings completed by Compliance One, it was determined they could reduce their survey time to 2 days due to the occupancy classification and compliance updates on the Life Safety drawings.
