Q: According to NFPA 30, the maximum allowable quantity of flammable liquids in an appropriate storage cabinet is 120 gallons, regardless of whether the room where it is stored is fire rated or not. In lieu of the cabinet, can I just store the 120 gallons in a proper fire rated storage room?
A: Yes, the room would have to be a 2-hour fire-rated room according to 18.5.4 of NFPA 30-2012, but nothing else could be stored in the room.
