Q: I see several fixes for doors with excessive undercut. My problem is I have a building that is ten years old that has excessive clearance over 1/8-inch at the top of 20-minute fire-rated doors. There have been no alterations since they were installed. I am wondering what is available that will legally fix this problem.
A: There are a few products that can be used to address oversized clearances on fire doors. Here’s a recent blog post about some of them: http://idighardware.com/2017/06/qq-wwyd-excessive-clearance-on-fire-doors/. Maybe the NGP 9200 would work for your situation. The important thing is to make sure that the product you use is listed for use on a door with excessive clearance. Most gasketing listed for use on a fire door is only listed for doors with the correct clearance and will not correct doors that have too much clearance.
